Okay
This morning I was playing Dragon's Lair.
Man... that game was ahead of it's time!!
It's hard, but pumps your adrenaline and is very satisfying.
You play a knight going through a evil castle filled with tons of monsters and traps and such to rescue a princess.
But the thing that makes it fun is the whole thing is a cartoon.
(Animated by Don Bluth who made movies like the Secret of Nimh which was the only good movie he made which is sad because I despise that movie because it's stealing all the attention from the superior novel.)
But forget that, back to the game. It's a interactive animated movie. The Character "Dirk the Daring" automatically moves except for when you're in danger.
Such for example (This isn't a level) he can walk down a hallway and a giant snake will show up.
Press spacebar to swing your sword to kill it, and he'll continue and the ground will start to crumble around him except for the left.
Press the left arrow and he'll move left.
But arrows will shoot out of the wall so move upwards and he'll dodge them.
But in the real levels this happens really fast so you have to be on your toes.
Half the time you don't even know what you're supposed to do until you die. (Or not fast enough) The game is mostly trial and error.
But usually when an action happens a direction will flash. (Swinging the sword is obvious enough but sometimes the game tricks you because you may need to run instead of attacking)
I have the 2003 20th anniversary collection. (Yep this game was made in 1983!!)
It comes with a similar game Space Ace which is as far as I know pretty much the game but a Sci-Fi instead of fantasy (I was never interested enough to play it) and Dragon's lair 2 which had actual dialogue and is really intense... with the first game there are tons of levels that are really short. But in 2 their aren't as many but the levels go on forever.
I swear in level 2 there are like 20 actions in a row.
But I can't say 2 isn't fast paced ;D
But my collection, has new levels for 1 and all kinds of modes. You can even set it to just watch the game play itself like an actual movie. (With or without deaths)
Except in this version they have multiple versions of most levels.
(Being mirrored to throw you off)
Did I say everything I can possibly say?
I didn't mention some things.
Like the bosses.
(Such as the Electric Knight and The Headless Horseman)
I think people have playthroughs on Youtube if you want to see
the actual game.
(I never looked but I am sure they are there)
Edit: Okay, I just found a good one. And he doesn't play through the mirrored rooms.
www.youtube.com/watch?v=P3XNQja0H7IThis is just incase anyone is curious about the game.
(If you aren't interested that's fine
)
The whole game is just ten minutes long.
